In the real world, the cane toad is native to Central and South America and has been established in South and Central Florida since the mid-20th century. It is a big toad, up to 15 or 20 centimeters, that comes out at night and in wet weather. The glands behind its eyes release a toxin that can kill a dog that bites it, which is why Florida advises removing it from yards.
