GTA VI cheats: what's actually known

Cheats are part of GTA's DNA, but not one exists for GTA VI yet: the game isn't out and there are no codes to give. What can be explained with facts is how cheats have worked across the series, what they take away when you use them, and why they've never been an option in multiplayer.

Why there's no code list on this page

A GTA's cheat codes become known the day the game reaches players' hands: some surface in the game itself, others get pulled apart by players and dataminers in the first hours. Before that there is nothing to verify. GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026, so today no list of GTA VI cheats exists — not ours, not anyone's. Publishing one would mean making it up, and we'd rather tell you this than pad the page.

How to spot a fake GTA VI cheat list

Some sites already publish GTA VI codes. Four tells that rule them out in ten seconds: the codes are identical to GTA V's, recycled as-is; they claim the cheats work in multiplayer, where cheats have never worked; they ask you to download a program or enter account details, which is outright fraud; or they cite no source at all. If a GTA VI code can't come from the game, because the game isn't on sale, it comes from nowhere.

How cheats have been entered across the series

Three mechanisms, depending on the era. The classic one is the controller button combo, entered fast and in sequence during play; that's how the PS2-era games worked, and GTA V kept it. The second is the character's own phone: GTA IV turned cheats into numbers Niko dialled on his mobile, and they stayed saved in his contact list. The third is a PC thing: in GTA V you open a text box and type the code on the keyboard.

What cheats actually did

They changed the state of the player or the world, never the story. The ones that show up on every list in the series are the survival-and-chase set: refill health and armour, get a weapons loadout, raise or drop the wanted level, and spawn a fast car or a helicopter beside you. Around that sits a second group that exists purely for laughs: change the weather, moon gravity, slow motion, explosive rounds, or the punch that sends a car flying.

What they disable: achievements and saving

Using a cheat has a price, and it varies by entry. In GTA V cheats aren't stored with your save: while one is active, achievements and trophies are locked out, and reloading the game switches them off. GTA IV was stricter: codes were dialled on the phone, stayed logged there, and some achievements stopped being available in that save. In both cases story progress survives; what you lose is the credit for it.

Online is a different thing: cheating, mods and bans

Cheats have always been story-mode only. In GTA Online no button combo or phone number does anything, and what people call cheats there are mods and exploits: external programs that alter everyone's session. Rockstar goes after them, and its published policy covers a temporary suspension on a first offence and a permanent ban if it repeats, plus removal of in-game money obtained illegitimately. With story-mode modding on PC it has been considerably more tolerant.

What's reasonable to expect in GTA VI (an expectation, not a fact)

Every single-player GTA has had cheats, so their absence would be the surprise — but that's a deduction from the track record, not something Rockstar has confirmed. The game ships only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with no announced PC version, so if cheats appear they'll come through the controller or the in-game phone before a keyboard. And one confirmed detail does shape it: Jason and Lucia share money and wanted level, so any cheat touching either would land on both characters.

Frequently asked questions

Do GTA VI cheat codes exist yet?
No. The game launches on November 19, 2026, and a GTA's codes become known once people are playing. Any list published today is invented, or GTA V codes with a new label on them.
Will GTA VI have cheats?
Every single-player GTA has had them, so it's the reasonable expectation, but Rockstar has confirmed nothing about cheats in GTA VI. That's a read on the series' history, not a fact.
Can you use cheats online?
No. Cheats are story-mode only; in multiplayer the combos do nothing. What does exist online are mods and exploits, which are cheating against other players and carry penalties from Rockstar.
Do cheats block achievements?
In GTA V achievements and trophies are locked while a cheat is active, and reloading the save turns the cheat off. In GTA IV, where codes were dialled on the phone, some achievements stopped being available in that save. For GTA VI nothing is confirmed.
Can a cheat ruin your save file?
In GTA V, no: cheats aren't written into the save and story progress is kept. What you lose while they're active is access to achievements and trophies. In earlier entries the effect could be logged in the save, so the healthy habit is to save before experimenting.
Is a PC mod the same thing as a cheat?
No. A cheat is a function the game ships with; a mod is third-party software that alters the game. Rockstar has lived alongside story-mode modding on PC and has acted against tools that reached into online, where they affect other people.
