Jason Duval: who the GTA VI protagonist is
Jason Duval is one of the two playable characters in Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar introduced him in the game's announcement and expanded his profile in the second trailer.

Confirmed
What Rockstar has confirmed
Jason is a former Army soldier who ended up working for drug runners in the Leonida Keys. The company describes him as someone looking for an easy way out who finds the opposite. He shares top billing with Lucia Caminos, and money, hideouts and wanted level are shared between them.

What Rockstar told LOVE
In LOVE magazine's interview (Issue 27, October 2026), Rupert Humphries, senior VP of narrative, says Jason ends up drug trafficking and robbing banks because of his material circumstances. He leaves it open whether Jason truly had no other way out or is just wired differently, and says his Army past isn't meant as a political statement.
LOVE calls Lucia the engine of the pair and Jason the brake, and Humphries agrees: the two are meant to push and pull each other through the story.
Verifiable
What having two protagonists means
It is the second time the series has more than one playable lead: GTA V (2013) had three and let you switch between them in the open world and mid-mission. In GTA VI switching also works mid-mission, as Rockstar has confirmed.
Unconfirmed
What is still unknown
There is no confirmation of how long his stretch of the story runs compared to Lucia's, or whether the game lets you play the whole campaign as just one of them. When Rockstar says so, it goes here.
