Character
Lucia Caminos: the series' first female lead
Lucia Caminos is the first non-optional female protagonist in Grand Theft Auto history. She shares the lead role with Jason Duval.

Confirmed
What Rockstar has confirmed
Her father taught her to fight from a young age, and fighting for her family is what landed her in Leonida Penitentiary. She gets out at the start of the story: both trailers show her regaining her freedom.
Before Leonida she lived with her mother in Liberty City, and what she wants most is the good life her mom has dreamed of ever since. This time, instead of half-baked fantasies, she plans to take matters into her own hands. Game Informer sums her up as "a fighter, fresh out of prison."
Rockstar frames her as the engine of the plot: the pair start with a heist that goes wrong and forces them to protect each other.
In LOVE magazine's interview (Issue 27, October 2026), writer Alexa D'Agostino says she wrote Lucia with her own mother in mind, an immigrant who grew up in Newark, "close to Lucia's hometown of Liberty City." Fellow writer Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern adds that the actress who plays her shaped the character a lot, and Rupert Humphries, senior VP of narrative, goes along with LOVE's description of Lucia as the engine of the pair and Jason as the brake.
Verifiable
Why she is a milestone for the series
No numbered Grand Theft Auto had ever had a mandatory female lead. GTA Online (2013) lets you create a character of any gender, but that is a player avatar, not a written character. Lucia is the latter.
Her bio also carries the only nod to the series' classic geography that Rockstar has written into the protagonists' profiles: Liberty City, the city of GTA III and GTA IV.
Unconfirmed
What is still unknown
Rockstar has said why she ended up in prison, but not exactly what happened or how long she was inside. What circulates about her sentence comes from unverified leaks, which is why it is not in this profile.
