In the real world, Florida has had rhesus macaques since the 1930s: they were released on an island in the Silver River, in the middle of the state, for a tourist attraction, and today several hundred live in and around Silver Springs State Park. They are native to South and Southeast Asia, move in groups and come close to people. Authorities ask people not to feed them because some carry the herpes B virus.
