What happened

Rockstar included a short but unusually clear moment in Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. At 06:05, the player approaches the driver’s door of a locked car and the interface offers two actions: SLIM JIM or SMASH WINDOW.

A slim jim is a tool used to work a vehicle lock from outside. The other route is exactly what it says: break the window. At 06:07, the footage shows the result of choosing the first option. A circular right-stick indicator appears with a timing segment while the character works at the door.

What is confirmed

The official footage confirms that entering a locked vehicle can present the player with a visible choice. It shows two distinct routes: use a slim jim or smash the glass.

It also confirms that the slim jim triggers an interaction. The right-stick icon appears inside a circular prompt alongside a marked timing segment. This is more than a single automatic animation after a button press.

The video is hosted on GTA VI’s official site, where Rockstar says it was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5.

What we still cannot confirm

Rockstar has not explained the rules of this interaction. The clip does not establish whether the player can fail, what a failed attempt costs, whether the timing differs by vehicle, or whether every locked car offers the same choices.

It also does not prove that smashing a window always alerts bystanders or police, or that the slim jim is part of a full stealth system. Those ideas may fit the scene, but the footage does not confirm them.

Why it matters

This moment does not prove that every car theft in GTA VI is a complex system. It does show a decision before the player gets into the vehicle. Smashing the window looks immediate; the slim jim uses an on-screen timing interaction.
