Miami considers a Vice City makeover ahead of GTA VI's launch
A proposal due before the City of Miami Commission on September 10 would create a temporary route for GTA VI advertising in downtown. The vote is still pending, and Rockstar has not confirmed a deal.

Status: Report. Miami's City Commission is expected to consider a proposal on September 10 that could allow temporary Grand Theft Auto VI advertising in downtown. The premise writes itself: the real city could lean into its link with Vice City just before the game's release. That is not the same thing as a signed Rockstar campaign.
What happened
The Miamian reports that District 2 Commissioner Damian Pardo is backing an ordinance to create a temporary exception to Miami's signage rules. The draft described by the outlet would allow banners, building wraps and other GTA VI promotional displays in downtown Miami from October 15 through December 31.
The item is expected to reach the Commission on September 10. A successful vote would give the city a way to authorize that advertising during the window. It would not prove that the placements have been bought, or that anything will go up on October 15.
What is confirmed
Rockstar still lists November 19, 2026 as GTA VI's release date on its official page. The official Vice City screenshots used with this story are also available directly from Rockstar.
The Miamian's report cites a Pardo spokesperson discussing a possible maximum of six banners for 56 days, at a quoted rate of $202,000 per banner. At that maximum, the total would reach $1.212 million for the Upperdeck–Edward T. Graham Heritage Trail project. The proposal still carries conditions, including a city vote and relevant downtown owner or association agreements.
What we cannot say yet
Rockstar and Take-Two have not publicly announced a signed campaign, a media purchase or approved creative for Miami. The proposed requirement that Take-Two approve signage belongs to the ordinance framework reported by the outlet; it is not a company confirmation.
There is also no basis to call this a coordinated worldwide rollout, or to say that Miami International Airport, PortMiami or the Metromover are involved. Those ideas came up separately in Miami-Dade discussions about wider possibilities. A county spokesperson told The Miamian that nothing had been formally agreed or approved.
Update: Axios reported public opposition from Miami-Dade authorities to a potential GTA VI promotion. That reaction does not decide the City of Miami vote or prove Rockstar has walked away, but it does add a political obstacle to any wider collaboration.
Why it matters
Miami has not turned into Vice City. A part of the city is considering whether it wants the legal room to look that way during GTA VI's launch period. If commissioners approve the ordinance, the next question will be whether Take-Two or Rockstar confirms an actual partnership.
For now, this is a municipal proposal with a vote date, not a confirmed marketing campaign.
