đ¨The police in GTA 6 don't let you get away: Rockstar confirms more challenging and realistic chases
If you've played any game in the series before, you might think that just by going to the garage or Pay ânâ Spray, you can shake off the policeâbut it seems Rockstar wants to test players and see if they can be more resourceful.

If you thought evading the law in the new Grand Theft Auto 6 was going to be a piece of cake, get ready for a much bigger challenge. According to recent leaks and information shared by content creator TGG, law enforcement has received a massive upgrade that will keep us on edge whenever we get into trouble.
Rob Nelson, co-director at Rockstar North, has stated that evading the police âmay be more difficultâ than in previous installments, âbut itâs funâ because it will force players âto think moreâ and devise real escape strategies.
Hereâs a breakdown of the major changes to the police system:
Goodbye to Law Enforcement NPC Amnesia: Persistent Memory
Gone are the days when you could hide in an alley for a few seconds and the officers would magically forget you existed. Nelson explained that they wanted to eliminate that unrealistic situation: âWe wanted to move past that situation where you could throw the police off your trail instantly and then theyâd forget about you (...) and we wanted them to have a slightly more persistent memory.â
Now, the police will remember who you are and what youâve done long after the initial chase is over.
New âHeatâ Mechanics (Recognition Level)
The classic star system has evolved. Now, below your wanted level, different icons will appear to indicate exactly what information the police have on you.
- Identification: Theyâll know what clothes youâre wearing or what vehicle youâre driving.
- Aftermath of the Chase: Even if you manage to get out of their line of sight and your wanted stars disappear, if you keep using the same car or wearing the same clothes, theyâll be able to recognize you in the future and resume the chase. Youâll have to make a quick stop to change your clothes or switch cars to stay under the radar!
A minimap thatâll make you sweat
As if that werenât enough, another drastic change has been introduced that will add much more immersion and tension to your getaways: police cars will no longer automatically appear on your radar (minimap) while theyâre chasing you.
Youâll no longer be able to simply check your GPS to avoid their line of sight; youâll have to rely on your own eyes, follow the sound of the sirens, and use your surroundings to shake them off.
It looks like escaping after committing a crime in Leonida is going to be a true urban survival experience.
