GTA VI's Netflix Preview Drove More Than 100,000 US Sign-Ups
Ampere Analysis estimates Rockstar's Extended Look on Netflix generated over 100,000 new US subscriptions in a six-hour exclusive window, the platform's third-biggest sign-up spike of 2026.

What happened
Analytics firm Ampere Analysis estimates that Rockstar's exclusive Netflix premiere of Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, on August 27, drove more than 100,000 new US subscriptions during the six-hour window before the video went up on YouTube. Ampere says it was Netflix's third-largest subscriber spike of 2026 so far.
Louise Wooldridge, senior research manager at Ampere, put it this way: "more than 100,000 sign-ups from a six-hour exclusive window shows the pulling power of a major gaming event." She added that the deal also helps Netflix compete with YouTube for gamer attention and win back lapsed subscribers, while for Rockstar it opens GTA VI up to audiences beyond the franchise's usual core.
The 26-minute preview showed previously unseen gameplay and cutscenes, along with a first look at several new mechanics.
What is confirmed
Ampere Analysis, an independent industry research firm, is the source of both the 100,000 sign-up figure and the direct quote from Louise Wooldridge. The video premiered on Netflix on August 27 with a six-hour exclusivity window, then rolled out on YouTube and Rockstar's own channels.
Why it matters
This is the first concrete number on the commercial impact of putting GTA VI material on a general streaming platform instead of keeping it to YouTube or Rockstar's own channels. It also confirms interest in the game reaches beyond the usual GTA fanbase: some of those sign-ups likely came from people who don't follow the series closely.
