GTA VI will take up 210 GB on PS5, according to PlayStation Store data

The PlayStation Game Size account pulled the download size from the PS Store: 210 GB. Pre-loading starts November 12. The Xbox size isn't known yet.

Status: Report. The figure comes from the PlayStation Store's database, not from a Rockstar announcement. Insider Gaming says it can corroborate it. The Xbox size isn't known yet.

Now we know how much space to clear. GTA VI will take up 210 GB on PS5, according to the PlayStation Game Size account, which pulls data from the PS Store before it shows on product pages and has a good track record. It posted the figure on October 27. Insider Gaming says it can corroborate the number, and RockstarINTEL is reporting it too.

What the figure says

  • A 210 GB download for the standard edition on PS5.
  • Pre-load on November 12 and launch on the 19th at local midnight, as Rockstar had already confirmed (IGN).
  • The boxed version is a download code with no disc, so you'll still need to download the 210 GB.

That puts GTA VI among the biggest console games around. The PS5's stock SSD is 825 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB depending on the model, and the real free space is lower than advertised, so a lot of people will need to delete games or add storage before the 12th.

What we don't know

  • How big it is on Xbox. Neither Microsoft nor Rockstar has said. RockstarINTEL thinks Series X will be a bit larger because of PS5's compression, but that's a guess.
  • Whether there'll be a day-one patch and how much it would add.
  • Whether the figure will change. It's what the listing says today. It will most likely hold, but it could shift before pre-loading.

The other numbers going around

Until now it was all rumors. In June a "600 GB" screenshot circulated that Insider Gaming called fake, and in September another one showed 244 GB that nobody could verify. Cyberleek's "200 GB plus" referred to the supposed development build it claimed to have (its history, here), not the final game.
