GTA VI weapons: what has been seen in hand
Rockstar has published no GTA VI weapon list. What's confirmed is short and specific: the pre-order bonus includes a weapon pattern, and the official video shows a menu with weapons and items tabs plus a shooting range with rules of its own. Everything else worth saying today comes from how weapons worked in the GTA games already released.

What's confirmed about GTA VI's weapons
Two things. One comes from the commercial material itself: the Vintage Vice City Pack, the bonus for pre-ordering before November 20, 2026, includes period outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia plus a weapon pattern, which confirms weapons take some kind of visual finish. The other comes from the official August 2026 video: at 17:50 a menu appears with WEAPONS and ITEMS tabs, and at 18:31 a shooting range counts remaining targets, time and a bonus for an instant knockdown.
The weapon wheel: the shift from GTA IV to GTA V
In GTA IV you changed weapon by cycling through categories with a button, with no pause at all. GTA V introduced the weapon wheel: eight sectors by type (melee, pistols, submachine guns, shotguns, rifles, sniper, heavy, thrown) opened by holding a trigger, with time slowed while you pick. It's one of those changes that never got undone: every later Rockstar game starts from that idea.
Ammu-Nation: buying, modding and practising
The series' gun shops have been called Ammu-Nation since GTA III. In GTA V they double as the workshop: scopes, suppressors, grips, extended magazines, flashlights and finishes are bought there, with liveries added in GTA Online. They're also the practice ground: GTA V's shooting ranges set challenges per weapon type with medals, which is exactly the scheme (targets, time, bonus) seen in the range in GTA VI's video.
Weapon skill: San Andreas and GTA V
San Andreas tracked a skill per weapon that rose as you fired and stepped up through levels to a hitman rank, at which some pistols and SMGs could be dual-wielded and fired on the move. GTA V simplified it into a single shooting stat, shared by the character, that improves with use and tightens spread. Rockstar has confirmed no stat of this kind for Jason and Lucia.
The Red Dead Redemption 2 precedent
It's the recent Rockstar game with the strictest treatment of weapons: they get dirty and lose performance if you don't clean them, and whatever you aren't carrying stays on the horse. Bringing that to Vice City is a possibility people discuss a lot, but it's worth remembering no GTA has ever done it: in GTA V weapons neither degrade nor need cleaning. The comparison is the community's, not Rockstar's.
What's reasonable to expect (an expectation, not a fact)
With what exists (a confirmed equipment menu, a shooting range with rules, and a weapon pattern sold with the pre-order), the reasonable expectation is visual and functional customisation at least at GTA V's level. One confirmed detail also shapes it: Jason and Lucia share money, so buying hardware with one spends the same wallet as buying with the other. All of the above is our deduction; Rockstar has detailed not one weapon in the game.
Frequently asked questions
- Is it known which weapons GTA VI will have?
- There's no list and no names. Rockstar has detailed no specific weapon; all that's visible is a menu with weapons and items tabs in the official video and a weapon pattern included in the pre-order bonus.
- Will GTA VI have a weapon wheel?
- Not confirmed, though the video does show an equipment menu. The eight-sector wheel arrived with GTA V and stayed in every later Rockstar game, so expecting it is a reasonable expectation rather than an announcement.
- Will weapons be customisable?
- There's one firm clue: the pre-order bonus includes a weapon pattern, which implies some customisable finish. In GTA V customisation went much further (scopes, suppressors, magazines) but that belongs to that entry's history.
- Is there a shooting range in GTA VI?
- Yes, it appears in the official video: it counts remaining targets, time and a bonus for an instant knockdown. Rockstar hasn't explained whether it sits inside a gun shop, whether it pays rewards, or whether it can be replayed freely.
- Will you be able to carry the whole arsenal?
- Not confirmed. The menu seen in the video proves neither a weapon limit nor mandatory storage in the vehicle; both are community interpretations of a short shot.
- Do weapons improve with use?
- Not confirmed for GTA VI. In San Andreas each weapon had its own skill, with levels that unlocked dual wielding; in GTA V that became a single shooting stat that improves with practice.
