Rockstar releases the GTA VI launch trailer: a score gone wrong, a prison call and a Justice debut
90 seconds that finally put Jason and Lucia's story in order: his Army past, a vault, Brian's Marina and "Flower in a Hurricane" by Justice with Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard. Captured on PS5.

Status: Confirmed. Rockstar released the video today on its website and YouTube.
Shot by shot: we broke down the whole trailer with the timestamp of every capture in this breakdown.
Two days ago we wrote that Thursday, October 15 was a date to watch and that nobody should count on a trailer. We were wrong in the best possible way. Rockstar dropped the GTA VI launch trailer this afternoon: 90 seconds, the first time Jason and Lucia's story has been laid out with any real order, and the debut of a Justice song featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. There are 35 days left until November 19.
From the marina to the prison call
The trailer opens far from Vice City. A pickup tows a jet ski down a road in the Keys, past a billboard that reads "The Keys," and pulls into Brian's Marina, a boatyard with boats stacked on racks. That's where we find Jason, with longer hair than we've seen on him and a backwards cap, buffing boat hulls.
His voice sets things up: "I got in some trouble in the Army. Didn't leave on the best of terms. They don't give loans or anything to people like me." Later he shows up in a U.S. Army T-shirt, so the military past isn't a throwaway line. While he's on the phone at the yard, a recording plays: "This is a free call from Lucia Caminos." That's the standard prison phone greeting, the same situation we first met Lucia in back in Trailer 1, now heard from Jason's end.

The score that goes wrong
Rockstar's official description sums up the plot in two sentences: Jason and Lucia "have always known the deck is stacked against them," until "an easy score goes wrong" and they land "on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America," caught in a criminal conspiracy that stretches across Leonida and "forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive" (Rockstar).
The edit shows it without explaining anything. There's a crew in plate carriers and headsets under red light, an exit sign, and the image this trailer will be remembered for: a round vault door, open, seen from outside, with two women walking in through flying cash. Then the fallout: a neon-green supercar chased by police down an Art Deco arcade street, a helicopter searchlight bursting a skyscraper's windows, a rooftop explosion at night and a woman firing an assault rifle with flames behind her.

Leonida in small doses
Between the heists, Rockstar does what it does best: life. A biplane trails pink smoke over a packed beach, a motorbike leaps off a rooftop next to the elevated train, there's a club bathed in pink light, a tattooed guy at the gym, another lounging with a huge snake in his lap, an iguana crossing the road, and a green gold-veined lowrider with a submachine gun hanging over the door.
The ending comes back to the couple. "Are we gonna be okay?" someone asks. "We've stuck together through everything. Just gotta get through it." Cut to an embrace on a sunset balcony, then the end card: November 19, 2026, "Pre-order now."

Justice scores it
The video debuts "Flower in a Hurricane" by Justice featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Rockstar credits the French duo as the game's score artists, and according to VGC the song will be on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album. You can play it on our radio, and everything else we know about the game's music is in this guide.
Captured on PS5
The end card says "Captured on PS5," just like An Extended Look. The video doesn't say whether that's the base console or the Pro. Vice says it's the base model; VGC says it isn't specified. We're going with what the video says.
Is this Trailer 3?
Rockstar calls it the launch trailer, not "Trailer 3." Still, it's the game's third actual trailer, after Trailer 1 (December 2023) and Trailer 2 (May 2025). An Extended Look, on August 27, was a 26-minute presentation rather than a trailer (Rockstar). We've updated our Trailer 3 page to reflect that.
What we got wrong
We expected the launch trailer between November 9 and 12, based on Red Dead Redemption 2, whose trailer landed the day preloading opened, eight days before release. Rockstar beat that by almost a month. GTA V's came about three weeks out; GTA VI's came five. We laid out that reasoning in our story on the November 9 earnings, and the takeaway is simple: Rockstar doesn't reuse calendars.
What we still don't know
- Whether there will be more videos. Today's looks like the last big one, but Rockstar hasn't said so.
- What the conspiracy actually is. The trailer gives hints, not answers, and that's fine.
- Online. Not a trace, as with everything Rockstar has shown so far.
It's up on YouTube and Rockstar's site. Which shot got you? Let's talk about it in this thread.
