Status: Confirmed. Xbox published the console and the sweepstakes on Xbox Wire. The link to GTA VI is not official: Xbox never names the game, and that reading comes from the press.

Xbox has unveiled the Series X-BITE: a working Xbox Series X built into an alligator more than five feet long from snout to tail. There is only one, and it is up for grabs from November 3 through November 10. We read the full Xbox Wire post.

The Series X that survived a gator

Xbox's pitch is simple: an alligator swallowed a Series X whole, and the console still works. You can see it through an illuminated Nexus on the animal's body. A custom controller with bite marks rests between its jaws, with green irises and Nexus-inspired pupils. Xbox calls it part console, part creature.

Who built it

John Nolan Studio, a creature animatronics shop, made it through 3D modeling, sculpting and fabrication. Xbox says the studio has built creatures for The Witcher, Jurassic World Dominion and HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series. No real alligators were used, and Xbox says it is best as display only.

Is this a GTA VI ad?

GameSpot says yes: it frames the stunt as an ad for the game and notes that Sony holds the marketing rights to GTA VI. Xbox's post says no such thing. It talks about "heading to Florida" this November and never names the game. According to GameSpot, Xbox marketing chief Josh Munsee said the console has "pure Miami vibes," a reference the outlet reads as obvious. We are going with what the post says: nothing official about the game. The Leonida angle is a fair inference, not a fact.

Context

Rockstar has filled Miami with in-game brands. We covered Burger Shot and Cluckin' Bell at the Kaseya Center, the Pißwasser and Patriot beers and NINE1NINE night at E11EVEN with Flo Rida.

Our read

Certainty: Likely

Nobody will play GTA VI better because of this: the X-BITE does not touch the game or its launch. What it shows is how the noise gets split before 11/19. Rockstar has filled Miami with Leonida brands, like the ones at the Kaseya Center and in Wynwood. PlayStation has posted its pre-download guide for 11/10. Xbox answers with an alligator and the word Florida, without naming the game. It reads like a company without the marketing rights that still wants a spot in the picture, which is what GameSpot points out.

What to watch: whether Xbox or Rockstar name the game in the sweepstakes posts, the winner announcement after 11/10, and whether the "heading to Florida" line in the post leads to more pieces before 11/19.

Our take: it is very likely a nod to Leonida, which is why we cover it, but without a line from Xbox naming the game, it stays an inference, even with its marketing chief talking about Miami. And it is an object that is not for sale: its value is the photo.
